Project Spotlight, Shanghai World Expo 2010, Danish Pavilion
The Danish Pavilion at the upcoming 2010 world expo in Shanghai (by Bjarke Ingles Group) is designed to give it's visitors a taste of life in Copenhagen. It combines a number of features from Danish culture such as the world famous city bikes, 1500 of which will be on site at the pavilion and may be used by the expo's visitors as an alternate mode of transportation.
The center piece of the pavilion is an indoor harbour bath, complete with sea water direct from Copenhagen harbour. The crowning jewel of the pavilion, the original little mermaid sculpture given as a gift to the city in 1913 will sit in the center of the harbour bath.
One of the most amazing feature of the Danish Pavilion is that after the expo, the pavilion and the 1500 city bikes can be moved to another location in the city to continue to serve the citizens of shanghai, adding a bit of danish culture to the permanent scene of the city.
